Feeling sandwiched between your life and the needs of your aging parents?

*One-Eighty Group Program *Live Calls *Community

Helping care for your aging parents is something you have always been willing to do BUT having to parent your aging parents is WAY more than you bargained for!

You’re irritated about how your parents are always criticizing everything you do to help them.

You’re sad and guilt ridden when your dad says “I can’t believe you are going to put me in a home”.

You’re concerned that your mom is not keeping her house as tidy as she used to, but when you say anything, she becomes defensive.

You scratch your head wondering why your dad won’t take a bath and worry about how you’re going to convince him that he needs to.

You’re baffled by how unreasonable your mother is about accepting your help with her grocery shopping.

You’re frustrated that your dad will not listen to reason and let you show him how to use his computer to pay his bills.

It is maddening when your mother constantly says “This is how I have always done it” even though “it” may not be the safest way for her to do it now.

One-Eighty is a group program for frustrated, sandwich generation adults that want to learn strategies to be more self-assured and confident in caring for their aging parents.

What if instead, you could have a cooperative relationship with your aging parents so you can…

  • keep them safe at home and in the world
  • talk to your parents in a way that they would listen to reason
  • empathize with them in a loving and authentic way
  • understand what is going on with the changes and behaviors you are noticing
  • help them maintain their dignity as they age
  • feel more confident in knowing which battles to pick and how to avoid power struggles

I created One-Eighty as a way to pay it forward by helping other adult children learn from the mistakes, regrets, successes and victories I had with my parents.

Hi! My name is Edla and I’ve been where you are!

Taking care of aging parents is equal parts…

  • Worrisome and frustrating
  • Sad and aggravating
  • Maddening and hilarious
  • Unbelievable and joyful
  • Scary and hopeful
  • Baffling and confusing

In thirty years working as an educator and therapist, I have had countless insights into the challenges of being in the sandwich generation. One-Eighty is my passion project for you and in memory of my parents. It is designed to help you help them in an easier way so you can engage and appreciate the good days and survive and thrive on the bad days.

The One-Eighty Group Program includes my 8-module course, live calls, handouts, membership in a private Facebook group and lifetime access to all modules

  • Assurance-weekly modules will provide information and strategies to interact with your parents in a more confident way
  • Encouragement-weekly live group meetings where you will be encouraged and supported on this fulfilling but challenging journey

“Edla's training, years as a counselor, and own personal experiences made her a fantastic resource when my father started showing the consequences of a stroke and Alzheimer’s. She understood the challenges I faced and gave me some great ideas on how to talk to my parents about some hard issues. I think one of the reasons Edla is such a great counselor is that she deeply cares about people, listens to what clients have to say, and knows how to get to the root cause of the problems.”

Unsure if this is a right fit for you? Worried that your parents will still be uncooperative? It is hard to even fathom that things could be better!

I am not going to sit here in rose colored glasses and say that it will be all rainbows and unicorns after One-Eighty BUT I can guarantee that you will have more…

  • days where they will consider your suggestions and recommendations
  • interactions with them that won’t always end in a fight or a puddle of tears
  • compassion and more empathy for their worries and challenges
  • understanding about how to give them a sense of control
  • strategies for dealing with their different temperaments
  • confidence when having to make hard decisions

  • seeking a personal touch and sense of hope

The program is not the right fit if you are…

  • looking for threat- or shame-based strategies to control them

  • unwilling to adjust your own actions and behaviors

  • looking for home placement or legal services

“My mother and I have had a difficult relationship. Now as she is challenged by her loss of control and physical abilities, our relationship has become more contentious. Edla, having recently faced some of the same issues with her parents, has offered me so many strategies. The most important thing for me is that Edla constantly reminds me to take care of myself. Sometimes we forget that part.”
